How to Add Breadcrumb for blogger blog

All of us might have seen breadcrumbs on most wordpress blog.
So why not implement a breadcrumb for the blogger blogs.. For those who don’t know what a breadcrumb is,here is a little defenition from wikipedia.

Breadcrumbs or breadcrumb trail is a navigation aid used in user interfaces. It gives users a way to keep track of their location within programs or documents. The term comes from the trail of breadcrumbs left by Hansel and Gretel in the popular fairytale.

The trails like Home >> Label >> Post Name are the breadcrumbs.

So Now lets get Started :

  1. Login to your blogger dashboard
  2. Go to Layouts and then Edit HTML
  3. Then I would Sugguest you download the whole template first then Continue Editing.
  4. Then Tick the Expand widget Template.
  5. Now find for this Code :
    <b:include data='top' name='status-message'/>

    <b:include data='top' name='status-message'/>

  6. Now Replace it with the below code :

    <b:include data='top' name='status-message'/>
    <b:include data='posts' name='breadcrumb'/>

    <b:include data='top' name='status-message'/> <b:include data='posts' name='breadcrumb'/>

  7. Now Find :
    <b:includable id='main' var='top'>

    <b:includable id='main' var='top'>

  8. Now Replace the above code with below code :
    <b:includable id='breadcrumb' var='posts'>
    <b:if cond='data:blog.homepageUrl == data:blog.url'>

    <b:else/>
    <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "item"'>

    Home
    <b:loop values='data:posts' var='post'>
    <b:if cond='data:post.labels'>
    <b:loop values='data:post.labels' var='label'>
    <b:if cond='data:label.isLast == "true"'> »
    <data:label.name/>
    </b:if>
    </b:loop>
    <b:else/>
    »Unlabelled
    </b:if>
    » <data:post.title/>
    </b:loop>

    <b:else/>
    <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "archive"'>

    Home » Archives for <data:blog.pageName/>

    <b:else/>
    <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "index"'>

    <b:if cond='data:blog.pageName == ""'>
    Home » All posts
    <b:else/>
    Home » Posts filed under <data:blog.pageName/>
    </b:if>

    </b:if>
    </b:if>
    </b:if>
    </b:if>
    </b:includable>
    <b:includable id='main' var='top'>

    <b:includable id='breadcrumb' var='posts'> <b:if cond='data:blog.homepageUrl == data:blog.url'>  <b:else/> <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "item"'>
  Home <b:loop values='data:posts' var='post'> <b:if cond='data:post.labels'> <b:loop values='data:post.labels' var='label'> <b:if cond='data:label.isLast == "true"'> » <data:label.name/> </b:if> </b:loop> <b:else/> »Unlabelled </b:if> » <data:post.title/> </b:loop>
<b:else/> <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "archive"'>
  Home » Archives for <data:blog.pageName/>
<b:else/> <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "index"'>
  <b:if cond='data:blog.pageName == ""'> Home » All posts <b:else/> Home » Posts filed under <data:blog.pageName/> </b:if>
</b:if> </b:if> </b:if> </b:if> </b:includable> <b:includable id='main' var='top'>

  9. Now Find </b:skin> and replace it with the below code :
    .breadcrumbs {
    padding:5px 5px 5px 0px;
    margin: 0px 0px 15px 0px;
    font-size:95%;
    line-height: 1.4em;
    border-bottom:3px double #e6e4e3;
    }
    </b:skin>

    .breadcrumbs { padding:5px 5px 5px 0px; margin: 0px 0px 15px 0px; font-size:95%; line-height: 1.4em; border-bottom:3px double #e6e4e3; } </b:skin>

Change Blog’s Font Type with Cufón

Still at the font embedding series, this time I’ll share how to change blog’s font type with Cufón. Few days ago, I write about how to change blogs font using some services. Also I’ve write about one of them, sIFR, which we know it use Flash. Cufón is different, it use javascript to render the font type.

Step 1 – Download Cufón

Download the Cufón javascript file. You can download the compressed version or uncompressed version. But I suggest you to use the compressed version.

Step 2 – Generate Font

Generate your font on its official site. The name of the resulting file will include the name of the font and the weight of the font (as a number – 400 is equivalent to “normal” and 600 means “bold”). The name of the file doesn’t actually matter at all, but it makes it easier for you to identify your fonts.

Step 3 – Integrate on the Blog

This is the step where you must add the javascript code to your blog. This code placed before

Code above is just example and it use one type of font.

Step 4 – Make IE Work

Unfortunately one problem remains with Internet Explorer. In most cases, there is a short but visible delay before the text is replaced. You can avoid this issue by inserting the following code right before the closing
tag (or before any external scripts such as Google Analytics).

Its Done!!! Save your template and preview.

Using sIFR 2.0 in Blogger Templates

sIFR in blogger templates

sIFR is one of the alternative way to change font type to beautify typography, especially in the heading (H1, H2, etc.), like Cufón. This time I’ll share how to use sIFR 2.0 in blogger templates.

The Steps

  1. Download sIFR 2.0
  2. Upload the javascript files from the downloaded zip file, those are sifr-addons.js and sifr.js.
    If you busy to upload those files, copy below code and paste before

  3. Put the CSS code from the zip file, those are sIFR-screen.css and sIFR-print.css. If you busy to do that, copy below code and paste before

    I’ve compress these codes.

  4. This is the most importance to use your desire font type.
    Actually when we download sIFR 2.0, it already bundled with flash file to make a font, but there is easier way:
    • Choose your desired font and save in desktop (because if it still in WINDOWS/font, it can be uploaded)
    • Generate your chose font to be a swf file at sIFR Generator. Upload your font, then next and next until finish and download it. In step 2, choose sIFR version 2 because we use this version.
    • Upload the downloaded file to image shack, because image shack can store swf file. After uploaded, take the link, e.g. .
    • Then the last, put javascript below to activate your chose font. Change the URL to your uploaded font link.

      You must change the red code to your uploaded font URL.

  5. it’s done! You can edit above code to adjust with your template character, either font size or color.

Note:
The weakness of this sIFR 2.0 is the link text become inactive. So, don’t use heading tag (H1, H2, etc.) for text link.

Alternative Ways to Change Blog’s Font Type

Hi! Introducing the new category at B2K, Font embedding. This time, I just share some ways to change the font type in your blog. Later, I’ll write about how to integrate these one by one.

There are some alternative ways to change the font type to be nonstandard anymore, need not to use images, so your blog’s typography will more and more interesting.

  1. Cufón

    Cufon

    “Cufón aims to become a worthy alternative to sIFR, which despite its merits still remains painfully tricky to set up and use. Cufón consists of two individual parts – a font generator, which converts fonts to a proprietary format and a rendering engine written in JavaScript.”

    Article about Cufón integrating:
    >>> Exploring Cufón, a sIFR alternative for font embedding

  2. sIFR 2.0 and sIFR 3

    sIFR

    “sIFR is meant to replace short passages of plain browser text with text rendered in your typeface of choice, regardless of whether or not your users have that font installed on their systems. It accomplishes this by using a combination of javascript, CSS, and Flash.”

    Article about sIFR integrating:

    • This is How You Get sIFR to Work
    • How to Use sIFR 3 (video Tutorial)
    • How To Implement sIFR3 Into Your Website
  3. FLIR

    FLIR

    “FLIR (Facelift Image Replacement) dynamically generates image representations of text on your web page in fonts that otherwise might not be visible to your visitors. The generated image will be automatically inserted into your web page via Javascript and visible to all modern browsers.”

    Article about FLIR integrating:
    >>>How To Use Any Font You Wish With FLIR

  4. Typeface

    Typeface

    “With typeface.js you can embed custom fonts in your web pages so you don’t have to render text to images.”

    Other format from typeface:
    >>>Type Select, Selectable Text Replacement

Update : Sifr3 is down or its not being supported instead now you can try Google Webfonts.

Top 5 Jquery Slide Gallery

Do you have minimal traffic from your website or blogsite? Is it too plain you wish you could afford to hire web developers and graphic artists to achieve the getting high standard of Internet users and clients?

You need no expertise to achieve that standard. So i gathered the simplified but best and user friendly JQuery to suit your needs and to give hype for your business and personal portfolios to help you maximize your traffic.

SLIDEDECK for WordPress

Though this Slide Jquery Gallery requires more time and effort to have that professional look of your blog or website, this slide deck will give the impression of PERFECTIONISM driving to marketing and advertising strategy. For its free? there is no room for second thoughts of having this and change your life for real.

YOXVIEW

Aside from its ability to beautify your gallery, it is also capable of embedding your videos. Don’t you think its great to have that creative look in your site? Though i do not advice for business or e-commerce sectors to have this to present your gallery and advertising portfolios.

TRANSPARENT SLIDE GALLERY | tutorial

This is open for Blogger and WordPress users. It has the simplest and easiest to understand tutorial among jqueries i used. It has automatic slide so i suggest to add more pictures to maximize the slideshow.

SLIDE SHOW JQUERY | tutorial

I personally like it for your client testimonials. Lets put different strategy to your website. The idea of giving your clients to be heard is a win-win advertisement. The logic? “you value your clients, and your service will speak for it”.

JC FLASH PLAYLIST

It has 3 categories to choose from. The best thing about this Flash playlist, it is 100% FREE. Its like a touch screen, automatically move up and down when you point your cursor to the list. It has quite delay if you have too much pictures loaded in the playlist so have a separate gallery for best views of your work.

If you are familiar with Flash, this one is for you.

Now, doze off to your dashboard and change your blog into more inviting and fun to read. Having second thought? i bet not. On a positive note, for blogger users, they can maximize or minimize the size of their slide. check out tutorials to learn more about the products.
